ABOUT ME
Dorian Cox is an accomplished arts leader specializing in artist mentorship, relationship-building, and equity-driven practices. As Director of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, he oversees the career development, artistic training, and recruitment of Canada’s most promising emerging opera artists. Central to his work is supporting these artists in unlocking their full potential, as defined by their own aspirations, guided by a commitment to fostering inclusive, diverse, resilient, and vibrant arts communities.
Dorian is a current participant in the 2025 Business/Arts Emerging Leadership Program and a former fellow of the Toronto Arts Council Leaders Lab. In demand for his expertise within the opera sector, he has served as guest faculty for at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, a preliminary juror for the Concours musical international de Montréal, a professional consultant for the Highlands Opera Studio, a guest juror at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a guest speaker at the University of Toronto.
Previously, Dorian served as Manager of the COC’s Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, where he programmed and presented 275 performances including 17 world premieres. During the COVID-19 pandemic he produced 22 digital performances.
As a musician, he performed in major concert halls across Canada, as well as in the United States and Europe. He has been awarded grants and scholarships from the Williamson Foundation for Music, Avedis Zildjian Company, Boston Conservatory (MMus), and University of Toronto (BMus Hon).
